She was born on a farm southwest of Raymond, SD on September 19, 1912, the eldest child of nine children, born to Leon and Emily (Patton) Shoecraft. She attended school at Raymond. Following her education, she worked for area families as a housekeeper. She met her future husband, Eldo Sasse, while caring for his Mother.
They were married on September 21, 1940 at Willow Lake. The couple lived and farmed in Garfield Township, northwest of Clark, for some 30 years. Mr. Sasse died on October 17, 1976. Zona continued living on the farm until moving into Clark to the Garden Grove Apartments in 1987. In 2006 she became a resident of the Roetell Assisted Living Center and then this past September she moved in to the Golden Living Center at Clark. She had been in Jenkins since Tuesday afternoon.
She will long be remembered for having that 'green thumb', she could grow anything. Zona enjoyed having a large and plentiful garden for many years. Another favorite pastime of hers was reading. A talent that she had was sketching, especially people and their surroundings.
