Wilbur E. Multhauf, 95, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Bentonview Park Skilled Nursing Facility in Monett, Missouri. Visitation will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 from 5-7PM at the St. Marys Catholic Church at Bryant with a rosary service at 6:30PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:00AM at the St. Marys Catholic Church at Bryant. Interment will follow at the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery at Bryant. He was born on June 25, 1920 at the family's home near Vienna, South Dakota to William and Aura (Lizer) Multhauf. Wilbur or "Elwood" as he preferred to be called grew up in Vienna, SD. He graduated from Vienna High School in Vienna, SD in 1938. After high school he remained on the family farm growing corn, oats, and barley for the family's hog operation. In 1965 he retired from farming and moved with his Mother and Uncle to Clark, SD where he worked at the local lumber yard, grain mill, and ultimately for a contractor with the Sue Bee Honey company. In 1983 he retired as a beekeeper and moved back to the family farm. Elwood was a member of the Willow Lake Lions club and enjoyed participating in all the clubs various activities and fund raising efforts. He was a devout Catholic and attended mass at either Saint James in Willow Lake or Saint Michaels in Clark. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant and deer hunting and reading (especially biographies and World War 2 era history). He was also an avid bowler and typically was on two to three teams every winter. In 2006 he decided to move to Colorado to live with his sister and then in 2010 both Elwood and his sister (Mary) moved to Monett, Missouri to be closer to his nephew (James) and his family. Wilbur was preceded in death by both his parents William and Aura. He is survived by his sister Mary Kathleen Steele of Monett, MO., his nephew James Steele (and James's wife Linda) of Monett, MO. and his niece Patricia K. Hauck (and Patricia's husband John) of Rock Hill, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Willow Lake Lions Club at Willow Lake, SD. Funeral arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home at Clark where there is an online registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
