He was born at Lily, SD on Mary 30, 1926, the son of Harry and Bessie (Faulkender) Grimes. He attended school at Lily until he moved with his parents in 1938 to Conde. He late returned to Day County and finished schooling. On December 28, 1948 he was united in marriage to Dolores Buising at Conde. The couple has lived their entire married life southeast of Conde. He farmed and did custom combine work since 1968 with Loren Siefken. Since retiring in September of 2001, he spent countless hours assisting neighbors or anyone else needed some help. He especially enjoyed time spent at the feedlot. Besides his love of the farm and doing custom work, his real love was for his family, especially the grandchildren. Woodworking, traveling, drinking coffee at the Turton Corner or the Crocker bar or wherever else he could give a hug and get a cup of coffee were some of the things he enjoyed. He will long be remembered for his love of visiting, laughing and telling Ole and Lena jokes. Even though Wesley was his given name (some say nick name) Red was the name he was known by. He was a member of the Conde United Methodist Church, the Conde American Legion, Turton VFW and the 40 et 8 of Aberdeen, an organization for Past-Commanders. Survivors who are grateful for having shared his life is his wife Dolores of Conde, children, Patricia Hugelman of Sioux Falls, Thomas Grimes and wife Bonnie of Marshall, MN, Sheila Johnson and husband Dale of Brule, NE, Bonnie Gates of Mitchell and her special friend Darwin Punt of Oacoma and Gerald Grimes of Brookings; 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 3 step-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild; a brother, Burleigh Grimes and wife Wanda of Catlin, IL and a sister, Frances Langbehn of Huron.
