She was born Vivian Nelsen on October 14, 1925 near Carpenter, SD, the daughter of Fred and Blanche (Fountain) Nelsen. Vivian attended country school near Carpenter. The family moved to Iroquois in 1940 and she graduated from Iroquois High School in 1944.
On February 6, 1945 she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Bruns in Ortonville, MN. He was inducted into the United States Army a few days later. While Bill was in the Army, Vivian lived in Huron working for Mary's Café and then missing her friends back in Clark County, moved to Clark in 1947. The couple has lived and worked in Clark since that time. Bill died in 1997.
While living in Clark Vivian worked for area potato farmers, the M & M Café for 7 years, the Clark Bakery for two years and then cooked at the Clark Lanes for 34 years. For the past few years, Vivian enjoyed living at the Fay Wookey Assisted Living Center in Clark and in February of 2018 she became a resident of the Clark Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing cards – any and all kind, except bridge. She would drop most anything to play cards!
