Virgil Bastian

Virgil Bastian, age 88, of Henry, the widower of Marjorie (Sharp) Bastian, died on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown.

Visitation Services will be held from 5-7PM on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the Furness Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 16, 2020, at 2PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark Tracy officiating. Burial will follow in the Lorinda Cemetery of Henry. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Masks or face coverings are required. Following the burial, lunch will be served at the St Henry's Catholic Church of Henry.

He was born Virgil D. Bastian in Clark, on August 23, 1932, the son of Everett and Jane (Harrison) Bastian.  Virgil attended Elrod School at Elrod through the 8 ^th grade.  The family then moved to a farm south of Henry.  He graduated from Henry High School in 1950.

Virgil served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean conflict where he was stationed in Germany.  He was discharged in December 1954.  After his discharge, he began farming in the Henry area.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Sharp on July 18, 1952.  The couple lived and farmed in the Henry area until retiring in 1988.  After retiring he worked for Maynard Farms.

Virgil enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being with his family.  Many of his fondest moments were spent in the Henry gym watching his family play sports.  You always knew when Virgil was in the crowd!  At home he like watching the Minnesota Twins on the TV.

He is survived by his son, Ron (Peggy) Bastian of Henry and a daughter, Kathy Frey of Watertown; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Janice Sharp and Marivonne Bastian.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife in 2003, a brother, Derald, two sisters, Donna Mae and Betty Jane, and a son-in-law, Bob "Tiny" Frey.
