Viola Waldow-Grewing

Viola M. Waldow-Grewing, age 90 of Willow Lake, died late Friday night, March 20, 2015 at the Parkview Care Center at Bryant after a brief illness. Viola Mae Hanson was born on December 19, 1924 in Vienna, the daughter of Peter Hanson and Alma Thompson. She grew up in Vienna and was baptized andconfirmedat the Vienna Bethlehem Lutheran Church.Viola attended Vienna High School graduating in 1942. Shortly after graduating from high school, Viola was united in marriage to Paul Waldow in Sioux Falls, SD on June 11, 1942, to this union six children were born. The couple lived on the Waldow farm until moving into Willow Lake in 1976. They enjoyed many different memories, playing marbles, 31, UNOand times spent with family and friends. Hunting season & holidays like Christmas were special times.On October 11, 1990, Paul died and the marriage ended at 48 years. Viola later met and married Leonard Grewing in December of 1991 and moved to Watertown. This marriage ended after afew years when Leonard passed away in June of 1996.Later Viola's cousin, Allen Thompson, was her companion until his death in October 2012. She enjoyed reading, camping, gardening,sewing, and quiltingmakingnumerous quilts for her family over the course of her life.One of her kids' fondest memories isof her cooking especially lefsa, potato pancakes, apple pies, and bean soup. Viola is survived by her son Arlin (Marjean) Waldow of Willow Lake, 3 daughters, Marjo(Richard) Landon of Austin, TX; VyDel (Roger) Gogolin of Rapid City, and Shelly(Monty) Wipf of Doland. 11 grand children: Lee Waldow of Mitchell, Angela (Brian) Bertsch of Ashley, ND, Jay (Andi) Waldow of Willow Lake, Mikel Waldow of Sioux Falls, Joey (Mary) Dawson of Huston, TX, Cynthia (Dan) Allison of Austin, TX, Jon Paul Stacey of Bruce, Teryl Stacey of Las Vegas, NV, Tyler Wipf of Huron, Tayler & Taryn Wipf of Doland. and 9 great grandchildren: Lee & Manny Waldow, Ian & Ari Allison, Adian, Alex, & Mason Bertsch, and Aubrey & Reagan Waldow. Niece Diane Kornman and sister-in-law Carmella Hanson She was preceded in death by her husband Paul,2nd husband Leonard, infant daughter Marlette, son Merivale and his wife Nada, grandsons Jeffery& Ken, her step brother Victor Munson, brothers Arnie and Glen Hanson. Visitation will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 from 5-7 PM at the Willow Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Willow Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake.
