Vincent J. Kumm, age 79, of Watertown, SD, died on Tuesday afternoon, September 2, 2008, at the Jenkins Living Center in Watertown following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watertown. The Rev. John Carter will officiate and burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Watertown. The honorary casketbearers will be his granddaughters, Jennifer Molitor, Rebeccah Jean Lutz, Jessica Kumm, Heather Huppler, Stephanie Kumm, Allison Kumm, Katrina Kumm, and Mallory Kumm. The active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Andrew Lutz,Travis Kumm, Jason Kerkvliet, Ryan Kerkvliet, Mike Kerkvliet, Christopher Kumm, Zachary Bierscheid, Cooper Bierscheid and Lucas Bierscheid. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Home in Watertown and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday. The Furness Funeral Home of Clark is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kumm was born on March 22, 1929 on a farm in rural Codington County, South Dakota, the son of Wesley and Lorena [Faragher] Kumm. He grew to adulthood near Waverly and attended public school at Waverly, graduating with the class of 1947. His children and grandchildren always teased him about being a Waverly Woodchuck! He was united in marriage to Doris Jean Lebert on May 29, 1949. They were married 55 years. Doris passed away on April 5, 2005. During his lifetime, he was employed as a bulk gas delivery man, delivered Chickasha Mobile Homes, delivered milk from the farm to the plant and sold feed to farmers for many years. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, playing cards, attending the Watertown Arrows sporting events and listening to the Minnesota Vikings and Twins ball games. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church of Watertown. Among survivors grateful for having shared in his life are his children, Deborah Kay (Larry) Lutz of Akaska, SD, Kelly Kenneth (Judy) Kumm of Pocatella, ID, Roxanne Marie (Greg) Kerkvliet of Bryant, SD, Marty Lee (Linda) Kumm of Prior Lake, MN, Todd Robert (Ann) Kumm of Fargo, ND, and Kathy Jean (Gene) Bierscheid of Watertown, SD; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and one sister, Eloise Ringsaker of Watertown, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents, Wesley and Lorena; brothers, Harvey, Wesley and Duane; sister, Clovis; and one grandson, Philip Lutz.
