Vernon J. Neuberger, age 95, Clark, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2014 in a Watertown hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack that morning. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 4-6 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue on Monday morning after 9AM at the Church in Clark. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 11AM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with The Reverend Jen Tyler officiating. Pat Seefeldt will be the organist with special music by Christopher Neuberger. The honorary casketbearers will be Tom LaBrie, Harvey Spieker, David Moritz and Bob Schlueter. The active casketbearers will be Lowell Bowne, Myron Edleman, Rich Edenfield, Mark Kulda, Christopher Neuberger, Roger LaMont, John Fischer and Roland Smit. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. He was born on November 30, 1918 at Willow Lake, the son of John and Gesina (Ludeman) Neuberger. He attended school at Willow Lake graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1936. Following high school, he and a fellow classmate, Mel Hamre, attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO for a year and returned to the Willow Lake area and farmed. On November 26, 1941 he was united in marriage to Doris G. LaMont at the Congregational parsonage in Willow Lake. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed 1 ½ miles north of Willow Lake for 5 years prior to moving to a farm 8 ½ miles south of Clark where they lived and farmed until moving into Clark in April of 1989. Doris died on December 20 of 2001 and Vernon continued living in his own home until becoming a resident of the Roetell Senior Living Center a short time ago. In addition to farming for many years & raising Purebred Hereford cattle, he enjoyed countless hours of fishing and hunting. Vernon had traveled to many areas of the US to hunt and fish, including North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas and others and several times to Canada. He thoroughly enjoyed the hunt and the time of fellowship together. Vernon also enjoyed spending time with family over the years. In the community he was involved in many different aspects including the Antelope Investors Club, was a Lifetime Member and a Golden Eagle of the NRA, the Farm Bureau, served as Treasurer of the Darlington Township Board for many years, Dacotah Bank Board of Directors, the N.E. Extension Board, Clark County Extension Board, and the Isaac Walton League. He and Roland Smit were very proud of a breed of dogs, the German Wirehair Pointer - Deutsch Drahthaar, of which Vernon was the owner of Panzer, the male dog, they bred and sold the puppies to several over the years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Clark since 1957 having served as the Chairman of the Administrative Board and also served as Chairman of the Building Committee when the new Church was built. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters, Ruth (Elmer) Edleman and Mary (Louie) Bowne. Grateful for having shared in his life are his sons, Gary (Sandra) Neuberger of Willow Lake and Vance (Bonnie) Neuberger of Watertown, 5 grandchildren, Sonya, Jan, Elizabeth, Christopher and Bethanie and 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
