Valerie "Val" Ann Hanson

Valerie Hanson, age 58, Bettendorf, IA, formerly of Clark, the daughter of Carleton and the late Loren Hanson, died peacefully in a hospice facility in Bettendorf after a three year long courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 4-6 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue on Sunday after 1PM at the Church in Clark.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 2PM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. Dorothy Fuller will be the organist with Duane & Char Peterson providing special music. Casketbearers will be Trent & Matt Harris, Barb Dalton and Connie Lundholm. Burial will follow in the South Elrod Cemetery near Elrod, SD.

She was born Valerie Ann Hanson on February 16, 1958 at Watertown, the daughter of Loren and Carleton (Seaberg) Hanson. She attended school at Elrod through the 3rd grade and began 4th grade in Clark. In 1976 she graduated from Clark High School. While in high school she was active in band and also the AFS Student Council. After high school she attended and graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

A short time after college, Val moved to Aberdeen and began employment with the State of South Dakota Department of Labor. While living in Aberdeen for the next 20 years she was active in the United Methodist Church, the Living Christmas Tree production and also the Aberdeen Community Theater. She was recognized by the community theater as being the Volunteer of the Year and for that award, she had the opportunity for an all-expense paid trip to New York City to attend Broadway Productions, a trip of a life time.

Val decided it was time to move on from Aberdeen and found employment in Cedar Rapids, IA with the Iowa Workforce Development. After a few years in Cedar Rapids, she moved to Racine, WI for three years and then this past December, moved to her "dream job" in Davenport, IA, living in nearby Bettendorf.

Her hobbies were few, among them though was a love of making wreaths, for any and all seasons, and shopping! Valerie will long be remembered by many, especially her co-workers, as a much respected worker. Her life was about her work ethic, integrity, and her dedication to the job. As said, she had landed her dream job, her niche, as a Manager of rates, tariffs and compliance for MidAmerican Energy in Davenport, IA., working up to Friday, two weeks ago.

Preceding her in death was her father, Loren Hanson.

Grateful for having shared in her life is her mother, Carleton Hanson of Clark, a brother, Mark Hanson of Springfield, IL and a sister, Sherry (Wayne) Harris of Valentine, NE, nephews, Trent (Mallory) Harris and Matt Harris. She also leaves aunts and uncles, Bob Seaberg of Indianapolis, IN, Margaret (Jerry) Boorda of Bountiful, UT and Everett (Erlene) Hanson of Clark and cousins.

Funeral arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home at Clark where there is an on-line registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
