V. Delores (Mrs. Gene) Warkenthien, age 77 of Willow Lake died in the Golden Living Center at Clark on Tuesday evening, February 6, 2007, where she had resided for the past three weeks, Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 11AM in the Willow Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend Mark Guthmiller officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 PM at the Church in Willow Lake and will continue after 10AM on Saturday morning in the Church. The organist will be Aris Schmidt with the congregation singing "Amazing Grace", "On Eagle's Wings" and "Go my Children, With My Blessing". Casketbearers will be Emmet Warkenthien, Bruce Brekke, Troy Grensberg, Rick Bruley, Kim Madsen, Duane Seefeldt, Randy Foster, McLain Thoreson and Philip Warkenthien. She was born Vivian Delores Grigg on August 31, 1929 in Clark County to Richard Phillip and Genevieve Auttie (Foster) Grigg. She attended school at Clark graduating from Clark High School in 1947. Following her high school education, she attended college in Vermillion at the University of South Dakota. She then went to work at Brown Clinic in Watertown until her marriage to Gene Emmet Warkenthien on June 4, 1950. They were married in the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ at Clark. In November of 1950 they moved to their present farm site west of Willow Lake where they have lived since. She has been an active part of the farming operation. She was a member of the Willow Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS) where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and was also active in the Ladies Aid. Some of her civic activities included the Lioness and Lions Clubs of Willow Lake, the Busy Bee Club, being an active part of her children's school activities and 4-H, serving as a 4-H Leader. Some of her pastimes included gardening, reading, sewing and crocheting. She mended countless pairs of jeans, canned and loved spending time at their home at Lake Kampeska, especially with her grandchildren and the rest of her family. She will long be remembered for all of her support to her husband Gene during his political career in the mid 1970's and early 1980's. Gene and Delores will also be remembered for their love of dancing. Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband Gene of Willow Lake, children, Barbara Thoreson and husband Brian of Knoxville, TN, Brenda Anderson and husband Thomas of Camino, CA, Steven Warkenthien of Huron and Dwight Warkenthien and wife Kristi of Willow Lake and 5 grandchildren, McLain, Lyndsea, Philip, Margaret and Megan. She also leaves an aunt, Muriel Grigg of Watertown.
