Steven Dean Peterson

Steve Peterson, age 58, Menno, SD, formerly of Clark, peacefully and joyfully joined his Risen Lord on Sunday morning, April 5, 2015. He has been a resident of the Menno Care Center for 9 years. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 5PM at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel in Clark. Dorothy Fuller will be the pianist. Burial will be on the Gillies plot at Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark along with his brother, Brett, who also died from Huntington's Disease in 2006. There will be no visitation. He was born on August 11, 1956 in Colorado Springs, CO, the son of LaVerne "Bud" and Clarine (Gillies) Peterson. Steve attended school in Colorado, then the family moved to Germany for a few years as his Dad was stationed in the US Army there. They returned to Germany and then moved to Clark, to be near his Grandparents and other family. Steve later moved to a ranch near Belle Fourche where he lived with his Mother and a brother, Brett. When his health continued to fail, he moved to care facilities and eventually to the Menno-Olivet Care Center in Menno. Some of his fondest moments in earlier days was spending time outside, being on the ranch, riding in a rodeo and helping with cattle. Since his time in Menno, Steve enjoyed watching old westerns, the movie "8 Seconds" - he would watch nearly every day, and being an avid fan of Shania Twain! His love of horses, cattle and dogs will long be remembered. Around the Clark area, he helped on the farm of Roy and Marie (Gillies)Thompson and also others around the County. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bud & Clarine and a brother, Brett. Funeral arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home of Clark were there is an on-line registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
