She was born Stella C. Bobzien on May 10, 1914 in Clark County, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Lena (Gloe) Bobzien.
On March 28, 1936 she was united in marriage to Alfred Sasse at Willow Lake. The couple farmed in Garfield Township, northwest of Clark for many years. When Alfred died in 1982, Stella moved into Clark a short time later in 1983 to her own home. She later became a resident in an apartment in Clark, then to the Roetell Assisted Living Center and in October of 2007 she became a resident of the Golden Living Center at Clark.
Stella was a longtime, devoted member of the Peace Lutheran Church at Clark. Her Church home was important to her as she remained active in the Womens groups until a short time ago. In the community, Stella was a longtime member of the Sunshine Club.
Among her many pastimes was gardening, canning and baking. Stella was not afraid of working, having worked on and off the farm for many years. She assisted area farmers with the potato harvest and for many years painted both the inside and outside of many buildings in the area. In addition to painting, she also put on countless rolls of wallpaper in many peoples homes. This is something she enjoyed doing even into her early 80s. She even earned extra money picking pheasants during the hunting season. Stella also could be found playing bingo and she enjoyed dancing.
Grateful for having shared in her life is a son, Darrell of Minnetonka, MN, 3 grandchildren, Alan (Kristen) Sasse of Burnsville, MN, Dawn Sasse of Darwin, MN and Robin (Dennis) Bondhus of Monticello, MN, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Also surviving her is a sister-in-law, Jeanette Bobzien, a niece, Alice Heim and a nephew, Francis (Carla) Bobzien all of Clark.
Preceding Stella in death were her parents, husband, a brother, Elmer Bobzien, a sister, Edna (Madsen) Temple and a niece and nephew.
