Sophie Kannegieter

Sophie Kannegieter, age 81, Willow Lake, the widow of Ernest Kannegieter, died on Saturday night, March 27, 2004 in the Huron Regional Medical Center at Huron. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 10:30 AM in the St. James Catholic Church at Willow Lake with the Rev. Ken Bain officiating. Burial will be in the St. James (Collins) Cemetery at Willow Lake. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 PM with a Liturgical Wake/Rosary service beginning at 7PM all in the St. James Catholic Church at Willow Lake. She was born north of Willow Lake on October 4, 1922, the daughter of Michael J. and Lena (Seefeldt) Michalski. She attended the Waldow School for a brief time until the family moved to Hague Township, west of Willow Lake, in 1928. She finished her schooling in the Northeast Hague Country School. On October 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to Ernest C. Kannegieter at Willow Lake. The couple lived and farmed in Lake Township. Mr. Kannegieter suffered a fatal stroke at the home on October 6, 1972. She continued living on that farm until building a new home a short distance away in 1980 where she has lived. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church at Willow Lake and was an active member of the altar society. She has been a member of the Busy Bee Club for over 40 years. Some of her other interests and hobbies were working crossword puzzles, flower gardening and following Willow Lake High School sports. She also thoroughly enjoyed 'eating out' especially at Chinese restaurants. She will fondly be remembered for the family Sunday dinners at her home, a tradition she enjoyed for many years. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Curtis Kannegieter and wife Leone and Kerwin Kannegieter and wife Lois all of Willow Lake, a brother, Orville Michalski of Clark, a sister, Gloria Miller of Iroquois and a sister-in-law, Dorathy Michalski of Willow Lake; 7 grandchildren, Ann Larson and husband Daron, John Kannegieter, Mark Kannegieter and wife Christina, Eric Kannegieter and wife Andrea, Erin Kannegieter, Pamela Lies and husband Jim and Todd Kannegieter and 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Christina Lies and Allison and Lucas Kannegieter. Preceding her in death was her husband, 2 sons, Michael in 1989 and Mervyn in 1961, a Brother, Sylvester "Sally" Michalski and a sister, Grace Busse.
