She was born Sonya Raquel Neuberger on March 11, 1969 in Robbinsdale, MN, the daughter of Gary and Sandra (Peterson) Neuberger. Sonya attended school at Willow Lake and Bryant. After she turned 18, Sonya moved to Watertown and became part of the New Horizons (ATCO) program and has since lived in the Gilbert House, a group home. It wasn't until June of this year that health issues forced her to be moved to Bryant. While living in the Gilbert House and working at New Horizons, Sonya was very active in her various jobs. They saved several different jobs specifically for her to complete, from putting blind and curtain parts in boxes to paper items. Even though Sonya was born deaf, she communicated by using sign language, photos, symbols, and more. Sonya's family and friends will not forget the special way she made them feel, by the excitement in her eyes and smile, and her hugs. Her sisters and parents especially will miss her unwavering love and trust. Sonya had many favorites: the color red, "The Dukes of Hazard", soda pop, word search books, ice cream, entertainment magazines, McDonald's, and puzzles. Her love will long be remembered by those whose lives she touched. Preceding her in death were her grandparents. Grateful for having shared in her life are her parents, Gary and Sandra Neuberger of Willow Lake and sisters, Jan (Mark) Kulda of Maple Grove, MN, Elizabeth (Rich) Edenfield of Lakeville, MN and nieces and nephews, Meara, Clarissa, Evan, Quin, Jade and Mackenzie.
