Shirley Marie Madsen

Shirley Marie (Temple) Madsen, age 87, of Huron, formerly of Carpenter, died early Monday morning, October 7, 2024, at Avantara -Huron.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Furness Funeral Home in Clark, SD, with Pastor Brenda Wicks officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services with a lunch to follow the memorial service.  A private family burial will be held later at Union Township Cemetery of rural Carpenter, SD.

Shirley Marie (Temple) Madsen, age 87, of Huron, formerlyof Carpenter, died early Monday morning, October 7, 2024, at Avantara—Huron.

Shirley Marie Temple was born on January 18, 1937, in Clark, SD, to parents John B. and Johanna (Johannssen) Temple, the sixth of seven children.  She was raised on the family farm in rural Clark County and attended Hague Township Country School.

She married Russell Madsen in June of 1956 at the Carpenter Methodist Church and they made their home on the farm northwest of Carpenter.  They had three children, David, Lori, and Michael. While on the farm, Shirley truly enjoyed the country life as they farmed and raised sheep, cattle, horses and chickens.  She worked at The Plains in Huron for fifteen years which she truly enjoyed as she was able to meet and visit with so many people. Shirley was also the one that won the contest to name "Big D's" in Huron.

She enjoyed the farm life but also enjoyed doing crafts, even participating in craft shows in the area. She also would travel throughout the state with her husband, Russ, and his bands, the "Country Kings", the "Southern Knights" and the "Dakota Strings."

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Russ, her daughter, Lori Weber, a granddaughter, Amber Bult, and siblings, Alma Bonnie (Jimmy) Temple-Falkenburg, Gretchen Jean (Patrick) Temple-Partridge, John George Temple, Louise (Donald) Temple-Strand, Donald Henry (Eleanor) Temple, and Dennis Leroy (Eunice) Temple.

She is survived by her sons, Dave Madsen and Mike (Taren) Madsen, all of Carpenter, son-in-law, Steve Weber of Huron, her grandchildren, David (Shannon) Madsen of Simi Valley, CA, Jonathan (Crystal) Madsen of Winsted, MN, Josh (Carolyn) Madsen, Kearney, NE, Tyler (Britanie) Madsen of Charlotte, NC, Jared (Laura) Madsen of Willow Lake, Chad (Christa) Bult of Sioux Falls, Kara (Doug) Albright of Huron, Chad (Christine) Weber of Papillion, NE,  Nikki (Manolo) Obregon of Sioux Falls, Misti (Corey) Thumann of Union, NE, and Corey (Abby) Weber of Union Star, MO, fifteen great grandchildren with two more on the way, a sister-in-law, Eleanor Temple of Clark, and several nieces and nephews.
