She was born, Mamie Sharleen Geranen, the daughter of Wilbur O. and Gladys Rhea (Ramsay) Geranen on March 11, 1953 in Detroit, MI. She grew to adulthood in the metropolitan Detroit area of Michigan, in Livonia, MI, graduating from Franklin High School in 1971. Following a higher education degree in nursing, she began a career as a loving and caring Licensed Practical Nurse from 1975-2000 at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit. She was a member of the Thurlow Spurr Michigan Concert Ministry Choir, a group that sang throughout the east coast and traveled to foreign countries; she loved to sing. She was united in marriage on December 27, 1999 to Gary Person of Hayti. Health problems of her own forced her to retire from being a full-time caregiver in nursing in Detroit and she moved to Vienna in 2000. Her father was formerly of the Lake Norden area. The Geranen family had owned and operated general mercantile stores in Bryant and Lake Norden many years ago. She wrote a little note for the Church directory that says' I moved to South Dakota, here I'm still learning country style living and find a wealth of caring, sharing people'. Sherry will long be remembered as a loving and caring person, her home was always open to others. She loved to laugh, cook, play cards and was also a beautiful seamstress. Her love of nursing carried back to South Dakota as she volunteered two days a week at the Parkview Care Center in Bryant. Sherry also had a fondness for dogs. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Vienna and currently was serving as the President of the W.E.L.C.A. Grateful for having shared in her life are her sisters, Kathy (Mike) Wilcoxen of New Hudson, MI, Peggy (Mike) Selva of Brighton, MI and Bonnie Jane Ratto of Vienna. She also leaves her best friend Gloria (David) Frazier of Mancelona, MI and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. God rest the memory of Sherry Person. Preceding her in death were her parents, grandparents and a sister, Colleen Rhea Geranen.
