Selma A. Schaefer, age 98, Raymond, the widow of George Schaefer, died early Wednesday morning, October 26, 2005 in the Sun Dial Manor at Bristol, SD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2005 at 2PM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church (WELS) at Raymond with the Reverend Mark Guthmiller officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Valley Cemetery at Raymond. Barb Wegman will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Dana Nordhus, Rollin Imme, Dallas Wheeler, Oscar Wenholm, Tim Mehlberg & Kenneth Wiedeman. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services at the Church on Friday morning. She was born at Merrill, WI, the daughter of Gustav and Johanna (Schleif) Imme. She moved with her family to Ash Township, north of Raymond, SD in 1910. Selma attended school in Ash Township. When she was 21 years old she moved to Sioux Falls where she worked for a short time before her marriage to George Schaefer on June 26, 1932 at Sioux Falls. The couple lived for a brief period in Lincoln, NE before moving to the Raymond area in 1939. They lived and farmed northeast of Raymond. While her husband trucked, she spent countless hours working on the farm, doing fieldwork and milking cows. He husband died in 1987 while they were wintering in Donna, TX, something they enjoyed for many years. Following his death she continued residing on the farm until moving into Clark in 1993. In May of 2004 she became a resident of the Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. She was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Raymond. Some of her favorite pastimes included crocheting, playing cards, and dancing. Survivors include her grandchildren, LaRae Taylor and husband Rex of Conde and Terrill Wheeler and wife Peggy of Raymond, 5 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tiffany and Thomas Wheeler, Nicole and Alyssa Taylor and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband George, her daughter and son-in-law, LaVonne and Tom Wheeler, a sister Elsie Burke, three brothers, Erich, Gus, Jr and Reinhart Imme and 2 half-brothers Herman and William Frank.
