Sam J. Glanzer, age 60 of the Fordham Colony near Carpenter, SD, died on Friday afternoon, March 2, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls following a short illness. Mr. Glanzer currently served as the Fordham Colony manager. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fordham Colony Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fordham Colony cemetery. Mr. Glanzer was born on June 15, 1951 at the Huron Colony near Huron, SD, the son of Joseph and Sarah (Wollman) Glanzer. He was united in marriage to Annie Wurtz on October 6, 1974 at Fordham Colony where they shared 37 wonderful years together. In his earlier years, Sam served his community as a devoted gardener and a beloved and respected German school teacher. He later applied the same dedication to being the colony manager. Among survivors grateful for having shared in his life are is his wife, Annie of Fordham; his children, Sammy (Becky) Glanzer, Becky Glanzer, Steven (Joyce) Glanzer, Gary (Angie) Glanzer, Joseph (Karen) Glanzer, Grace Glanzer and Jared Glanzer, all of Fordham and Michael (Annmarie) Waldner of Hutterville; twelve grandchildren, Abigail, Samson, Aniya, Adrian, Jaycee, Stephen, Nicole, Kali, Tiffany, Nadia, Micah and Matthew; and his siblings, Jerry (Dora) Glanzer of Fordham, Sarah (David) Waldner of Stockholm, Emma (Joe) Wollman of Lismore Colony, Pr. Bill (Susanna) Glanzer of Fordham, Miriam (William) Wurtz of Elmendorf, Ruth (Paul) Waldner of Hillcrest, Esther (Tim) Wurtz of Upland, George (Delores)Glanzer of Wisconsin and Lena (Donny) Waldner of Hillcrest; a sister-in-law, Doris Glanzer; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Martin of Fordham; his father-in-law and one brother-in-law.
