Mrs. Ruth (Neuberger) Edleman, Willow Lake, age 94, the widow of Elmer Edleman, passed away at Bryant on Wednesday, December 6, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 10:30 AM in the United Presbyterian Church at Willow Lake with the Reverend Lyle Meester and Pastor Jim Uthe officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. Music will be presented by Jody Symens as organist with Gaylen Grensberg and Henry Johnson singing. Casketbearers will be John & David Spieker, Marshall and Jason Edleman, Monty Truax and Jay Ferguson. She was born at Ackley, IA, on April 20, 1912, the daughter of John and Gesina (Ludeman) Neuberger. In the spring of 1915, she moved with her parents to Willow Lake where she has resided until her death. She attended school at Willow Lake graduating from Willow Lake High School in 1929 and was the Valedictorian of her class. On February 18, 1932 she was united in marriage to Elmer Edleman. Together they survived the dust storms and grasshopper plagues of the Dirty Thirties. Two daughters and a son were born of this union. Mr. Edleman died on May 17, 1991. Ruth taught Sunday School for over 40 years and was an Elder of the Presbyterian Reformed Church in Willow Lake. She was also very active in the Presbyterian denominations, serving as President of both the United Presbyterian Women of South Dakota and the Synodical. Her favorite scripture verse in the Bible was Philippians 4:13. She was an accomplished seamstress who created quilts and clothes for four generations of her family and also designed and made wedding dresses for a fabric center and enjoyed making clothes for Missions. Some of her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, reading and playing Scrabble. She enjoyed attending activities at the Willow Lake schools and enthusiastically supported three generations of her family over the years. She especially enjoyed watching basketball games. Her extended family was her greatest pleasure. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Janice (Edleman) Spieker and husband Harlan of Willow Lake, June (Edleman) Newburg and husband Huon of New Ulm, MN and Myron Edleman and wife Ann of Watertown. Also surviving her is a brother, Vernon Neuberger of Clark and a sister-in-law, Thelma Petersen of Huron; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was he beloved husband Elmer, a sister, Mary (Neuberger) Bowne, a daughter-in-law Jean Brower Edleman and a grandson, Mark Spieker. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening at the Church in Willow Lake from 6-8 PM and will continue Monday morning prior to services in the Church.
