Roy E. Thompson, age 94, of Clark died in a Watertown hospital on Friday, February 9, 2007 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 1:30 PM in the Good Hope Lutheran Church near Willow Lake. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The Reverend Fred Rosin will officiate. Roy Elmer Thompson was born on December 30, 1912 near Willow Lake, the son of Martin and Leva (Fahnstrom). He attended school through the eighth grade in the Olsen School in Lake Township. He helped on the family farm after his schooling. On February 20, 1941 he was united in marriage to Marie Gillies at Clark. They farmed near Willow Lake in Lake Township for 3 years, then Merton Township for 5 years and in 1948 they moved to Pleasant Township, west of Vienna where they farmed and lived until 1987. In October of 1987 they moved into the Garden Grove Apartments in Clark. Marie died on February 7, 1993. Roy has continued to make his home in the Garden Grove Apartments until going to the hospital a day before his death. The love of his life, after his wife, was his horses. He farmed most of his life with horses and enjoyed everything to do with them, including trail rides, horse shows and rodeos. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends and reveled in telling them the latest stories. Survivors include a brother, Harold Thompson and wife Pat of Grand Junction, CO, two sisters, Dona Schrader of Kiowa, CO and Vonnie Rinerson and husband Dean of Watertown, sisters-in-law, Clarine Peterson of Belle Fourche and Sylvia Gillies of Hampton, IL and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and three sisters, Leona Melham, Lois Balough and Amy Thompson. Memorials may be directed to the Good Hope Lutheran Church or Joy Ranch- Lutheran Outdoors. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after noon at the Church on Tuesday.
