Roy Wallace Hanson, age 88, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, DE. Roy Wallace Hanson was born on December 21, 1926, the son of the late Sigurd Hanson and Christine (Kloster) Hanson. He was born on a farm in rural Woodland Township and grew up on that farm and a second one located in Garfield Township. He was baptized at the Clark Center Lutheran Church and Confirmed at the Crocker Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools at Round Lake in Woodland Township and at Manning and McLain Schools in Garfield Township. Roy attended Clark High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1945. Immediately after his high school graduation, he entered the US Army. Upon completion of Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training and the Officer Candidate School, he served with the 12th Infantry Division (Philippine Scouts) in the Philippine Islands until he was honorably discharged in 1947. Following his service to his country, he entered studies at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Roy graduated from SDSMC in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Immediately upon graduation, Roy began his life long career with DuPont Company, in the Engineering, Design, Check-out, and Start-up of Mechanical Energy Systems departments for chemical plants in the United States, the Middle East, and South America. Roy retired from the DuPont Corporation in 1992 after 40+ years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigurd L. and Christine A. Hanson of Clark South Dakota; brother Alfred of Lakewood, CO; brother Bernard of Spearfish, SD; brother George of Clark, SD; sister Helen Thompson of Mitchell, SD; and sister Evelyn Larson of Huxley, IA. Mr. Hanson is survived by brother Lee of Minnetonka, MN, and sister Arlene Bird of Toronto, SD. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Clark Center Lutheran Church at Clark with a public viewing starting at 9:00 AM.
