Rose M. Christensen, age 93, Clark, the widow of John Christensen, died early Friday morning, September 4, 2009 in the Golden Living Center at Clark where she has resided since May of this year.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 2PM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with the Reverend Robin Schaunaman officiating. Marvine Obermeier will be the organist and Wendy Christman the soloist. She will sing Borning Cry and Precious Lord, Take My Hand. The congregation will sing Here I Am Lord and Lift High the Cross. Her honorary casketbearers will be the great-granddaughters, Suzanne, Christina, Michelle, Sara, Heidi, Melissa, Brianna and Raegan. The active casketbearers will be the great-grandsons, Michael, Cody, John, Joshua, Shawn, Daniel, Brandon, Gannon, Rhett, Grayson and a great-grandson-in-law, Josiah Christoffer. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home and after noon at the Church on Wednesday.
Rose Marie Christensen was born near Butler, South Dakota in Day County, on November 18, 1915, the daughter of Lorenz Lawrence and Lena (Jensen) Petersen. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, both at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. She was confirmed in 1929. She attended school near Butler and then graduated from Butler High School.
On February 2, 1935 she was united in marriage to John Christensen. The couple lived on a farm north of Clark until 1956 when they moved into Clark. John died in 1990. Rose has continued making Clark her home, living in her own home until moving into the Wookey Assisted Living Center in 2002 and then just recently into the Golden Living Center. She was employed at the ASCS office from February of 1957 until her retirement in 1980.
Rose was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark where she had served at one time as treasurer, a position she held for some 20 years. There were other activities she was involved in at the Church as well including the WELCA, and a circle group, the sewing/quilting group and always helping for many years with the annual lutefisk supper in various capacities. She was a Red Cross Volunteer for many years. Rose will long be remembered for her love of baking, especially buns and doughnuts. Whoever has experienced walking into Roses home and seeing the mounds of bread dough it is a sight that will never be forgotten!
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughters, Maxine (Francis) Florey of Superior, WI and Ila Mae (Fay) Florey of Clark, 8 grandchildren, Kevin (Beth) Florey, Todd (Sandy)Florey, Pam (Jerry) Porter, Michael (Linda) Florey, Robin Schweitzer, Dawn (Bryon) Stee, David (Dawn) Florey and Paul (Kirsten)Florey, 18 great-grandchildren, Suzanne, Christina, Michael, Michelle, Cody, Sara, John, Joshua, Heidi, Shawn, Melissa (Josiah) Christoffer, Daniel, Brianna, Brandon, Gannon, Rhett, Raegan, and Grayson. She also leaves siblings, Ordean (Doris) Petersen of Minneapolis, MN, Thelma Wicks and Alma (Omar) Corky Paulson all of Clark.
Preceding her in death were here parents, husband John, and siblings Clarence, Rev. Lester and Raymond Petersen, a brother in-law, Austin Wicks and a grandson-in-law, David Schweitzer.
