Ronald "Ron" Opsahl, age 68, of Carpenter died unexpectedly at his home on November 11, 2021.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 15, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 11 AM at the Carpenter Methodist Church with Pastor Brenda Wicks officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery, rural Carpenter.
Ronald Lee Opsahl was born October 8, 1953, in Huron, SD to Vernon and Mary (Tschetter) Opsahl. He attended elementary school in Carpenter and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1971. He then attended South Dakota State University.
He lived near Carpenter his whole life farming with his dad and brothers and worked for a time at Huron Dress Beef. Ron preferred his John Deere equipment to farm with. He was a huge sports fan attending many events including SDSU football games and an annual trip to watch the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Ron enjoyed hunting including pheasants, deer and antelope.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his brother James and his wife Charlotte Opsahl of Carpenter, a niece Angela (Chris) Gilligan, a nephew Derek (Karrie) Opsahl, one grandniece Jordyn Gilligan, three grandnephews Kain and Gannon Gilligan and Ashton Opsahl, two step grandnieces and one step grandnephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold Opsahl and one grandnephew Brady Gilligan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Carpenter Methodist Church or Richland Cemetery Association.
