Roger E Hovde

Roger E. Hovde age 80, Papillion, NE, formerly of the Willow Lake area, died peacefully Friday, January 13, 2017 in the Bryant Parkview Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 11AM in the Good Hope Lutheran Church near Willow Lake with the Reverend Bryan Taffe officiating.  Visitation will be one hour preceding services in the Church.  The pianist will be Wendy Christman. The casketbearers will be John and Mark Kannegieter, Daron Larson, and Mike, Brian, and Scott Hovde. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery.

Roger, son of Nels and Lyda (Roberdeau) Hovde, was born on May 1, 1936 at Clark. He attended elementary school in Naples and then attended Clark High School graduating in 1954.

After a brief stay in California to "see the world" with some buddies, Roger returned to South Dakota and began a career with the Whirlpool Corp. He continued to work for the Whirlpool Corp. until his retirement at age 55. He had worked for them in Sioux Falls, Birmingham, AL, Benton Harbor, MI, and at Papillion, NE.

Roger married the love of his life, LeNora Teska, on June 2, 1957 at Bryant. She died in 2006.

He was very dedicated to his work, however he really enjoyed his garden, flowers, birds, and even those darn squirrels! He and LeNora spent countless hours listening to the Gaither gospel music. Roger had a wonderful sense of humor, having a binder full of stories and jokes, and will long be remembered for his generosity to those in need.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, a brother, Morris, a sister, Nancy (Dean) Buchanan, and a brother-in-law, Curtis Kannegieter.

Grateful for having shared in his life is a brother, Rodney (Jane) of MD, a sister, Leone Kannegieter of Willow Lake and her family, and a sister-in-law, Joan Hovde of CT.
