Roger Allen Helkenn, "Rog", was born July 17, 1958 at Watertown, SD to Wayne and Mary (Boudreau) Helkenn. He grew up on the farm in the Carpenter/Raymond area attending Logan Consolidated, Raymond and Clark Schools graduating from Clark High School in 1976. He also attended Dakota State University in Madison for two years.
On November 30, 1985, he married Marcia Lynn Miller at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark. He always loved the land and farming. For 46 years, he worked for Arthur Farms starting at the age of 14. He truly enjoyed his work and spent all of his time either working or with his family.
He enjoyed gardening, working on the lawn, and playing cards and games with Marcia and the kids. His greatest joy was his family. Roger enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and especially loved to rock the grandkids to sleep, although as they grew older they realized it was because grandpa enjoyed the nap time too!
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Marcia; children, Lacey (Matt) Ortberg of Clark, Jenna (Barry) Johnson of Garfield, MN, Rachel (James) Morehouse of Raymond, and Aaron Helkenn of Clark; grandchildren, Teagan, Talyn, Tatum, Trynlee, Claire, Chase, Finley, Ella, Bennett and Aspyn; siblings Bruce (Linda) Helkenn of Montevideo, MN, Gerry (Annette) Helkenn of Clark, Deb (Brad) Jordahl of Webster City, IA, Mike (Linda) Helkenn of Raymond, Lynn (Kevin) Chandler of Watertown and Julie (Russ) Foster of Garden City and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Mary Helkenn and his father-in-law Bob Miller.
Arrangements are with Furness Funeral Home of Clark where there is an online registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com .
