He attended school at the Woodland Township Country School. After completion of the 8th grade, Robert farmed with is Dad, then he was drafted into the United States Army in 1945. He served his country honorably during World War II, as an Infantry Truck Driver. After serving two years, he returned to Clark to the farm. With the exception of those two years, Robert lived and farmed in Clark County his entire life. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1950, Robert married Lois Lura at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark. The couple lived and farmed in Day Township, southeast of Clark. To this couple, two children were born, Janel and Roger. Lois died in 1995. In 1998, Robert married Janice Wookey, she died in 2014. Robert was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Clark Center Lutheran Church and later, the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark. Robert was a farmer, through and through. He really had no hobbies other than fishing with his brother-in-law, Jasper Lura. Farming was his hobby. Several times this fall, Roger, with the help of others, lifted Dad up into the combine to ride with his combining corn. He thoroughly enjoyed being in the combine and helping with the harvest. Robert is not the only one who will dearly miss this unforgettable experience come next year's harvest. He also really enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Jessica., especially in the golf cart! Preceding him in death were his parents, his wives, and a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Lester) "Bud" Larson. Being forever thankful for sharing in his life are his children, Janel (Don) Schultz of Canton, SD, and Roger Nordhus, a granddaughter, Jessica Nordhus, a brother, Kenneth (Harriett) Nordhus, and a sister-in-law, Irene Lura all of Clark. Also surviving are his God children, Marcia Lura Battista of Utah/Florida and Jolene Larson Kleinlein of Aberdeen, several nieces, nephews, as well as many other relatives, farm hired-men, and a host of friends.
