Mr. Robert H. Henry age 79 of Garden City died at his home in Garden City on Sunday, May 28, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 10:30 AM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark. The Reverend Daniel Anderson will officiate. Honorary Casketbearers will be all friends and family. At the request of Mr. Henry and his family, cremation will follow the services with his ashes being scattered in the Cascade Mountains in the State of Washington. Visitation will be 2 hours preceding services in the Chapel on Saturday morning. He was born at Scappoose, OR on January 20, 1927, the son of Webb Gile and Judith (Anderson) Henry. He grew to adulthood in the Copper Harbor, MI and Chicago, IL areas graduating from a high school in Chicago. Following his graduation, he joined the US Navy and served his country for 7 years. While serving in the Navy he learned how to be an Air Traffic Controller and after his discharge in 1952, began a career with the FAA as a controller. He was united in marriage to Andrea Stave in Sedro Woolley, WA. To this union four children were born. He first worked at the airport in Portland later being transferred to the Sea-Tac facility in Seattle, WA. He retired in 1974. After his retirement he worked as an outfitter and guide living in Enumclaw, WA. On December 9, 1988 he was united in marriage to Carole Biggar Zakrzewski at Enumclaw. They live there until moving to Garden City in 1993. While living in Garden City he worked for McCain Foods in Clark for a short time. Some of the hobbies he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, traveling, photography, and reading, watching the Seattle Mariners on television, listening to country music and blue grass music. He will long be remembered for his love of telling stories and jokes. He served as the Chief of the McMicken Heights Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years. A benefit of that position for his children included a ride on the fire truck on the first day of school every year! Bob was a member of the National Rifle Association, Custer Battlefield Association and the Cagley-Smith American Legion Post of Clark. Among survivors who are grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Carole of Garden City, children, Judy Heier and husband Richard of Puyallup, WA, Charles Henry and wife Steffanie of Seattle, WA, Lori Lewis and husband Nigel of Kirkland, WA and Sheri Anderson and husband Daniel of St. Ann, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, step-children, Laura Zakrzewski of Sioux Falls, Shonda Johnson and husband Brian of Scotland, SD and Robert Zakrzewski, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Hubert, NC and 8 step-grandchildren.
