Mr. Richard "Dick" Smith, age 62, Clark died early Monday morning, November 3, 2008, in a Sioux Falls hospital of an apparent brain aneurism that occured Sunday afternoon.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 11AM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with the Reverend Warren Rhodes officiating. Burial will be for family members only on Friday. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller as organist and Roger Nordhus as soloist.  He will be singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand".  The congregation will sing the "Hymn of Promise".  Casketbearers will be Curly Neal, Jim and Dennis Johnson, Eric and Mike Warren and John Guest, Sr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 9AM on Thursday at the Church.

He was born at Watertown on July 14, 1946, the son of Wilmer and Frances (Hallberg) Smith. He attended rural school near Clark and then attended Clark High School graduating in 1964.

Following his school he moved to Illinois and worked for McLaughlin as a welder in Moline, IL.

In March of 1970 he was united in marriage to Donna Warren. To this union a son, Travis, was born. The couple divorced several years later and then he married Suzanne (McHenry) Schuricht on October 12, 1985 at the Congregational Church in Clark. The couple lived and farmed with his father near Clark. He then operated his own farm, gravel pit and worked at various trucking jobs until his death.

Some of his greatest pleasures in life were playing pool, softball in younger years, playing cards and spending times with his dogs, Maggie and Coco. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years.

Survivors include his mother, Frances Smith of Clark, a son, Travis (Janel) Smith of Sioux Falls, brothers, DuWayne (Joyce) Smith of Sahuarita, AZ and Merlin (Brenda) Smith of Mitchell, SD, step-sons, Greg Schuricht of Roseville, MN and friend Tina Weiler of Edina, MN and Scott Schuricht and friend Kimberly Kusser both of Pierre, 2 grandchildren, Miranda and Abigail Smith and 3 step-grandchildren, Trey, Devon and Cameron DeCrook and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death was his father, Wilmer Smith, wife, Suzanne in January of 2005 and one of his favorite hunting dogs, Bennet.
