Mr. Richard "Hunce" Seefeldt, age 78, Willow Lake, died in the Parkview Care Center in Bryant after a brief illness on Wednesday night, April 26, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 11AM in the United Presbyterian Church at Willow Lake with the Reverend Richard Poppen officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Johnny Fonken American Legion Post #113 of Willow Lake will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. Hunce was born on April 18, 1928 in Lake Township, rural Willow Lake, SD, the son of Fritz and Sadie (Miller) Seefeldt. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended the Peterson School across their pasture in Lake Township. He attended school until he completed the 8th grade when he had to go to work. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserves on October 19, 1950. He served in the Panama Canal area and in Japan. He was discharged on September 17, 1956. Hunce was united in marriage to Ruth Mundhenke on June 13, 1953 at the German Lutheran parsonage in Willow Lake. Together, Hunce and Ruth farmed in Rosedale Township, Clark County, near Willow Lake, and raised their family. He enjoyed farming and also raising pigs and sheep. He was also engaged in the plumbing business in the Willow Lake area for 35 years and together, Hunce and Ruth owned and operated the H & R Caf' in Willow Lake for nearly 12 years. In later years, Hunce worked as a Green Thumb worker at the Willow Lake Wellness Center for two years. Hunce was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Willow Lake where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School treasurer, a deacon, and was an usher for many years. He was a Korean War Veteran and a 45-year member of the Johnny Fonken American Legion Post #113 of Willow Lake. Hobbies included his love of visiting, mowing his yard, hunting gophers, and spending many hours playing with his grandchildren and watching them play sports and participate in FFA activities. He more recently enjoyed spending time with Rory and Renae Burke's four children. He spent many hours playing with them and they affectionately called him Grandpa Hunce. He was also very proud of receiving his honorary diploma from Willow Lake High School in 2003. Among survivors grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of nearly 53 years, Ruth, his daughter Marie and her husband Stan Zantow, his son Duane (Oscar), all of Willow Lake; four grandchildren, Rick and Ashley Zantow and Garrett and Heath Seefeldt; Rick's girlfriend, Sandi Hauglid; three step-grandchildren, Brent and Becky Zantow and Mindy Seefeldt and fianc', Jamie Bower; two sisters, Marcella Bratland of Watertown and Wava Kretzschmar of Willow Lake; two sisters-in-law, Alma Melsby of DeSmet and Doris Fryslie of Watertown; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Sadie, and four brothers, Oliver, Lester, Alvin (Bud) and Gordon. Email condolences at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
