Richard "Rich" Popham, age 60, of Henry, died on Sunday, May 21, 2017 in the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls with family at his side after a long illness.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 10AM to Noon at the Watertown Elks Lodge, 600 W. Kemp Avenue. Burial will be private.
Rich was born on October 8, 1956 at Watertown, the son of Lynell and Anna Mae (Janssen) Popham. He attended school at Florence, graduating in 1974.
He went on to work for Rauen Steel in Watertown and then moved to Sioux City to work for Iowa Beef. Later he moved to Seattle, WA where he worked various jobs. His favorite employment while living in Seattle was working as a crew leader loading and unloading ships.
Due to health issues, he returned home to help his brother Jeff and also Virgil Wishard.
Rich loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors and hanging with friends. A favorite memory of his was a fishing trip to Alaska with his buddies.
He always had a positive outlook on life, was easy going and had a very kind and giving heart. Rich was always willing to help someone, even giving his last dollar to them.
Survivors include his father, Lynell Popham of Florence, siblings, Dave (Sandy) Popham of Kersey, CO, Ken (Theresa) Popham of Webster, Jeff (Tracy) Popham of Henry, Patty Rauen of Goodwin, and Lori (Paul) Kraai of Watertown. He leaves nieces and nephews, Taylor, Tannor, Karyssa, Tucker, Newt, and Sammie Popham, Krista (Martin Prouty) Zellner and Colter Zellner.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Anna Mae Popham and a brother-in-law, Vince Rauen.
