Funeral services for Richard M. Nelson, 89, Clark, will be held on Monday, March 1, 2004 at 2PM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark. The Reverend Roger Semmler will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery at Clark. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and 2 hours prior to the funeral services Monday at the Church. Richard M. Nelson, age 89, Clark, died on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at the Beverly Healthcare Center at Clark where he had resided a short time. He was born at Clark on February 19, 1915, the son of Engvold and Julia (Haugom) Nelson. He grew to adulthood in the Bradley community attending Cottonwood Country School. His first two years of high school were in Watertown and then his junior and senior years were at Bradley, graduating in 1932. He worked for Martin Solberg north of Bradley & then after high school worked for the CC Camp in the Black Hills of South Dakota and returned to the Bradley area purchasing a produce and cream station and renaming the business to Nelsons Produce in 1934. He owned and operated this business for 51 years. On October 29, 1938 he was united in marriage to Wanda Ackerman at the parsonage of the Crocker Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Bradley until moving to Clark in 1967. They moved into the Wookey Memorial Living Center in the fall of 2001 and recently he became a resident of the care center. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark, the Clark Golf Club, and the Clark Development Board and had served on the Bradley School Board for many years. Some of his hobbies including bowling, golfing, watching baseball and football on television and second to none though was going to grade school and high school sporting events. He had received the Clark Comets Backer Award on several occasions. He absolutely loved to be at an event, knowing most families for a few generations. Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Wanda of Clark, a son, Gary Nelson and wife Roma (Eneboe) of De Pere, WI, 4 grandchildren, Bill, Tom, Matt and Kim Nelson, a step-grandchild, Jackie Van deurzen; 3 step-grandchildren, Kristin, Jessica and Alyssa; a brother, Harland Nelson and wife Norma of Huron, a brother-in-law, Max Bjerke and wife Marge of Bradley, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Lucille Bjerke.
