Hurley, 77, of Bryant, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 5-7 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bryant, with a wake service starting at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St Mary Catholic Church at 10:30 AM in Bryant with Rev. John Short officiating. Burial will follow at Collins Cemetery in Willow Lake with military graveside rites performed by the American Legion Johnny Fonken Post #113 of Willow Lake. Pallbearers will be Rick Anderson, Dick Donley, Tony Ryland, Dennis Kruthoff, Tim Carlson and Chris Jensen. Richard "Dick" J. Hurley was born in St. Paul, MN on February 13, 1934 to James & Mary (Staudenmaier) Hurley. Dick attended school until the 10th grade then he enlisted in the US Navy in September of 1951. He was aboard the USS Luzon ARG 2 with a ranking of BMG 3. Dick was honorably discharged in September of 1959. He married Leona Wegner on April 21, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Willow Lake. Dick worked construction for few years as a rock crusher, then worked at Dick's Dairy, and the Bryant Elevator for 28 years, as he delivered feed for them. He finished his working life at Medallion Homes in Watertown, now Superior Homes, until his retirement in 1996. Dick enjoyed coin collecting, metal detectors, bowling, working on cars and spending time with his family. Dick is survived by his wife, Leona of Bryant; sons, Tim of Bryant and Chuck (Debbie) Hurley of Harvey, ND; daughter, Stefanie (Tim) Carlson of Lake Norden; grandchildren, Christine Hurley, Kim Hurley, Ashley Hurley, Trevor Carlson and Danielle Carlson; great-granddaughter, Abigail Slaubaugh; a sister, Patricia Ryland of Rapid City; cousins, RoseMary Schumacher of Lake Elmo, MN and Lynn Connolly of St. Paul MN. Dick is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Mary Poline and a daughter, Teresa Hurley in 1972.
