Richard Charles Gott, 75, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was born on October 15, 1946 in Edgeley, North Dakota to Frank Henry Gott Sr. and Margaret Meyers. Richard was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
As soon as Richard graduated high school, he joined the Navy where he served on the First USS Halsey DLG 23 BMSN E-3 (A Leahy-Class Guided Missile Cruiser) from 1963 to 1967. He was stationed out of the Philippines and served 3 tours in Vietnam. Richard earned The National Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and A Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. When honorably discharged from the Navy, Richard worked construction until retiring from Elder Jones as a Superintendent.
Richard met the love of his life, Barbara in Pontiac, Michigan. They joined in the union of marriage on July 29, 2000, in Oakland County, Michigan. They had a home in Durham Missouri for 14 years and relocated to Watertown, SD in October 2019 to be close to family.
Richard enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing, trapping, woodworking, construction projects, gardening, rodeo, westerns, making wine, country music and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He loved his daughters with all his heart.
Survivors include Richard's wife Barbara Gott and daughters: Shannon (Roger) Tesch of Watertown, SD, Tonya Gott and special friend Brian Dilbeck of Rothsay, MN, and Jaime Anderson and partner Leslie Spencer of Shorewood, WI. Son: Todd Sager of Gothenberg, NE. Grandchildren: Bradey, Taryn, Zack, Ashlynne, Nathan and Kyla. Great Grandchildren: Lyrik, Cashtyn, and Amiyah. Sisters: Sherry Decker, Margaret (Peggy) Larsen, Ruth Gallegos-Tate, Diantha Larson, Juanita Gott and brother Bruce Niegum. Many nieces and nephews and beloved dog Annie.
Richard was proceeded in death by his son Charles Michael Gott; Great Grand-daughter Zoey Ambali; his parents, Frank Henry Gott Sr., Margaret Dressler and Johnny Dressler; his brother Frank Henry Gott Jr.; Brother-in-law Willy Larsen; Nephew Frank Gott and beloved pets.
A memorial service will be held at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel in Clark, SD on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 12:00PM with visitation one hour prior.
