Mr. Richard D. "Bud" Claussen, age 70 of Clark died in a Watertown hospital early Saturday morning, October 29, 2005 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with the Reverend Roger Semmler officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Hill Cemetery at Bradley with Military Rites by the Larry F. Hartman American Legion Post of Bradley. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller and Roger Nordhus. Honorary Casketbearers are his 4 grandchildren, Adrianna & Cameron Claussen and Joshua & Kaitlyn O'Neill. Acitve casketbearers will be Mike O'Neill, Jerry "Sam" & Christopher Hartley, Ryan and Russell Claussen and David Clausen. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 9AM at the Church on Wednesday morning. He was born at Clark on February 15, 1935, the son of Hans and Hazel (Alters) Claussen. The family lived south of Doland where he attended school in Capitola Township. He helped on the family farm until his entry into the US Navy in 1952. Bud served his country until 1956. After his discharge he worked for Peckham Well Drilling Co. in Clark. On May 11, 1963 he was united in marriage to Frances (Fran) Fryett of Bradley at Clark. The couple lived at Clark for a short time before moving to Lead where he was employed in the Homestake Gold Mine. In 1966 they moved to Brookings. He had attended a meat cutting school at Toledo, OH and received his certification as a meat cutter. After his schooling he worked for the Spies Corporation in Brookings and was later transferred to Breckenridge, MN. While in Breckenridge, he received his GED. He later became employed by the US Government obtaining his Civil Service classification at Langdon, ND. They lived in various places in the United States and Germany for many years. In 1995 he retired and moved to Clark. Mrs. Claussen died on April 25 of 2005. Currently he was employed by the City of Clark as the manager of the city rubble site. Some of his hobbies included reading western books and fishing. Bud loved the outdoors and being in the lawn doing yard work. Grateful for having shared in his life are his children Kelly Claussen and wife Diane of Alamogordo, NM and Renee O'Neill and husband Mark of Henry; four grandchildren, Adrianna and Cameron Claussen and Joshua and Kaitlyn O'Neill; siblings, Helen Bowers of Clark, Donna Clausen of Watertown, Myra 'Mike' Hartley and husband Gerald of Clark, Betty Harper and husband Don of Watertown and Roger 'Butch' Claussen and wife Jeannie of Clark. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Fran, a son Bobby and a sister Alice Walsh.
