Richard Austin

Richard L (Dick) Austin, age 79, Willow Lake passed away Friday, November 12, 2021 at home with his family by his side.

Dick was born September 13, 1942 in Willow Lake, SD to Harlan and Esther (Gehrke) Austin.

Dick graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1960 and worked nine years for the South Dakota Highway Dept. as an engineers' aide.

On November 12, 1965 Dick married Janet L. Nelson in Willow Lake. To this union two daughters were born, Dawnett and Yvonne.

In 1969, Dick began a 25 year career in law enforcement with the Huron, SD Police Dept. This was a job he truly loved.

Dick was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, LaDonna Meester and daughter, Dawnette.

He is survived by his wife Janet, daughter Yvonne McDonald, sisters Marjorie Rothenberger, Lavonne Neuhaith, and Sandra Eschenbaum, 3 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

A private family burial of his cremated remains will be held at a later date with his final resting place being in Collins Cemetery.
