Phil Framstad

Philip "Phil" Framstad, age 75, rural DeSmet, died at his home on Wednesday afternoon, April 8, 2015 of an apparent heart attack. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 5-7 PM with a wake service starting at 6:45 PM at the St. Mary's Catholic church in Bryant. A funeral mass will be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic church in Bryant with Father Gregg Frankman officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery at Bryant. He was born on February 21, 1940, the son of Norman and Agnes (Wall) Framstad. Philip or "Phil" was raised near Vienna where he attended Vienna country school until the 8th grade. Following school he traveled to Oklahoma where he worked in the field doing custom combining for several years. After spending some time in Oklahoma, Philip returned to the De Smet area where he continued to work on the family farm. On December 28, 1963, Philip was united in marriage to Marylee Peterson at St. Mary's Catholic church in Bryant and to this union two children were born; Tom and Jim. Philip continued residing and farming in this area until his death. The farm was a place Philip took great pride in being a part of, from raising cattle, horses and crops to hunting, trapping and fishing and anything that included being a part of the outdoors. He enjoyed raising ducks, chickens, geese and turkeys as a pastime. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Marylee Framstad of rural DeSmet, two sons Tom (Melissa) Framstad of DeSmet and Jim Framstad of rural DeSmet. Siblings; Don (Janean) Framstad of Springdale, AR and LouAnn (Jim) Frost of Phoenix, AZ. Three grandchildren; Mallory (Jacob) Knippling of Gann Valley, SD, Morgan Framstad of Carthage, SD and Kathryn Framstad of DeSmet. One great-grandson Gabriel Knippling and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, and in-laws Lee and MaryAnn Peterson.
