Oscar Ewing

Oscar Ewing, age 74, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Raymond, SD died at Sioux Falls Avera McKennan Hospital on January 9, 2022.

A memorial service will be held on January 22, 2022, at the Miller Funeral Home Downtown, 13 ^th and Main in Sioux Falls beginning at 2:30 pm. His family and friends should consider themselves honorary pallbearers. Internment will be at the Turton, SD Sunnyside Cemetery on May 30, 2022 at 11 am.

Oscar William Ewing was born April 2, 1947 to John "J.I." and Mayme (Mowery) Ewing. He attended grade school at the Logan Township Country School then continued his education at Raymond School.   He received his GED from the Armed Services. In 1967, Oscar joined the Armed Services.  His military occupational specialty was with aircraft maintenance unit.  Throughout his military career, he served in Korea, twice in Germany, Fort Carson, Co and Fort Bragg, NC.  Oscar received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant First Class E7 in 1988.

Following his military career, he worked at a correctional facility in Fayetteville, NC.  In the early 1990's, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he worked at various occupations and helped many people in a variety of ways.

Oscar was a lifetime member of the Raymond American Legion Post #209.  He enjoyed pheasant hunting, welding and being a member of the stockcar pit crew of Bob Dafoe and Dale Furby.

Oscar's survivors include his special friend, Sheila Christman; sisters, Iris (Jim) Glenn and Mary (Rolland) Ewing Thorpe; nieces, Megan Glenn and Christine (Bryan) Hjelman; nephew, John Glenn; great niece Payton Hjelman; and great nephew, Quinton Hjelman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.I. and Mayme Ewing.
