Olive LaMont, 94, rural Willow Lake, died peacefully surrounded by family members at her home on Sunday afternoon, February 10, 2013. There will be no visitation. Graveside services at the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake will be private conducted by Pastor Rosanne Anderson. She was born Olive Riter on July 29, 1918 on a farm near Willow Lake, the daughter of George and Grace (Harrington) Riter. She attended grade school and high school at Willow Lake graduating in 1936. Following high school, Olive attended the General Beadle College in Madison, SD obtaining her teaching certificate. She then taught in Clark County Rural schools. On April 23, 1938 she was united in marriage to Walter LaMont at the Congregational Church in Watertown. The couple had celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in 2012. The have lived their married life farming in Rosedale Township. She enjoyed homemaking, baking and crafts. Olive will long be remembered for her cookie baking, especially by all of her grandchildren. Mrs. LaMont was a life-long member of the United Church of Christ in Willow Lake, serving as a former Sunday School teacher and on various Church boards. Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter-in-law, Linda, a sister, a brother, a brother-in-law, 2 grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces. Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband of nearly 75 years, Walter of rural Willow Lake, four sons, Roger (Sharon) LaMont of Carpenter, Rodney (Joyce) LaMont of Sturgis, Merlyn LaMont of Mobridge and Myron (Vicki) LaMont of Willow Lake, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Margaret Riter of Richardson, TX and many nieces and nephews.
