Stormo, 94, of Watertown, formerly of Hazel, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5-8:00 PM at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, with Pastor Randy Eisenbeisz officiating. Music will be provided by Helen Proudy and Sharon Stormo with the great-grandchildren singing "Jesus Loves Me". Pallbearers will be Jason Stormo, Eric Stormo, Michael Stormo, Jeff Bren, Jack Rasmussen and Spencer Rasmussen. Honorary Pallbearers will be his Sunchase family. Burial will follow at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be provided by the American Legion Cook-Olsen Post #217 of Hayti. Norman Delbert Stormo was born on the Stormo Homestead, rural Hamlin County on May 15, 1918 to Severt and Sara (Olsen) Stormo. He attended rural school in Hayti and then graduated from Watertown High School in 1938. Norman farmed on the family farm until he enlisted in the US Army on February 11, 1942. He served his country in the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1945. He rented farmland and bought a new John Deere in 1946 which was a veterans preference. On September 23, 1949, Norman married Ethel Esther Olson at the Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Norman attended and graduated from one of the first classes at Lake Area Tech with a degree in mechanics. He bought the Stormo Homestead in 1957. He farmed until 1967 and started working for Hamlin County and worked for them for 12 years. He retired at the age of 62 from the county and he and Ethel wintered in Texas for 26 years. They moved to Sunchase in 2004. Ethel died on November 20, 2009. Norman loved farming and the land. He enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, bowling on the Wii, visiting family and friends, and he loved traveling with Ethel and spending time with his family. Norman is survived by his son, Gregg A. (Sharon) Stormo of Clark, SD; and his daughter, Clea R. (Bob) Urevig of Watertown, SD; his grandchildren, Jason Stormo, Kerri (Jeff) Yexley, Kristi Stormo, Jeff Bren (Casey Kuck) and Heather (Jack) Rasmussen; his step grandchildren, Wade Urevig , Colette (Bob) Krueger and Baron Yexley; 8 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Stormo of Watertown, and many nieces and nephews. Norman is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethel and 18 siblings.
