Norman D. Helkenn, age 80, Clark died early Monday morning, January 11, 2016 in the Golden Living Center at Clark where he had resided for nearly the past year.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 9AM at the Church on Friday morning.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. Music will be provided by his nephew, Steven Logan. The members of the Clark Lions Club and all other friends and all family should consider themselves as honorary casketbearers. The active casketbearers will be Rob Schurrer, Richard Logan, Amy Severson, and Mike, Mark and Randy Helkenn. A dinner in the fellowship hall will follow the church services with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark following the dinner.
He was born Norman Dean Helkenn on June 11, 1935 in Clark, the son of Edward and LaVerne (Kruthoff) Helkenn. Norman attended the Fordham School through the 7th grade and then Logan High School, graduating in 1953.
On September 13, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joyce Schurrer, the love of his life! They were married in the Congregational Church at Clark.
Norman attended the Welding Trade School at Moorhead, MN and also served his country honorably in the Army National Guard for 6 years.
He was born a farmer, and a farmer he remained, living and working the land, where he felt at home, making a living for his family for over 60 years. In the community he was a member of the Clark Lions Club.
In his free times he enjoyed fishing in the annual Lion's tournament, playing cards and in earlier years golfing, bowling, hunting deer, and pitching horseshoes.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Wayne (Mary Darlene) Helkenn and Arlyn "Um" Helkenn, a sister, Patsy Helkenn Wallum, aunts, uncles, including a special Uncle, Art "Red" Helkenn.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of Clark, sons, David Helkenn of Watertown, and Douglas Helkenn and his partner, Steve Dosch of Key West, FL. Also surviving are brothers, Gene (Carolyn) Helkenn, Dale (LaVonne) Helkenn all of Clark, and Roland "Butch" (Betty) Helkenn of Sundance, WY.
