Nadine I. Wookey

Nadine I. Wookey, age 73, of Clark, SD, died early Saturday morning, August 16, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Clark following an illness of three months. She was the widow of Lyman R. Wookey. Funeral services will be held on SATURDAY, August 23nd, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clark. The Rev. Warren Rhodes will officiate. A private burial service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery near Clark on Sunday, August 24th. Wanda Bethke will be the organist with the casketbearers being her grandchildren. Stephanie Wookey will be the soloist. Visitation will be held on FRIDAY evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with Eastern Star rites at 7:30PM all at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and prior to the service at the church on Saturday. She was born during the dirty thirties on a farm, near Garden City, SD on August 2, 1935, the daughter of Merle and Treva (Grasse) Easthouse. Her father often said, as told by Nadine, The only crop they got that year was her! She attended school at Elrod and then graduated from Clark High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Lyman Wookey on November 1, 1953 at the Clark United Methodist Church. The couple has lived and farmed in Day Township. They enjoyed many years during the winter months at their home in Wilcox, AZ. While in Arizona, she and Lyman spent countless hours making denim quilts. Lyman died in May of this year. The majority of her days on the farm near Clark were spent helping on the farm and cooking for the men. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking especially her bread and cookie pie, sewing, quilting with embroidery of dish towels a specialty and even ironing. Her love of visiting and reminiscing will long be remembered as will her love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always bringing them treats and candy, even though some of the candy went in her purse before giving to them! Another memory of Nadine will be her purse, it was always ready for a long trip, or a day without food, finding most anything in it, but especially chicken strips, wrapped in a napkin. Even though Nadine was always busy on the farm, she still found time to work part-time at the Clark Nursing Home and also helped in the area as a home health nurses aide. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Clark, United Methodist Women and a circle group at Church, the Friendly Neighbors Club, Echoettes, Clark Lioness Club and Peace Chapter #160 Order of Eastern Star at Raymond, SD since 1979. Preceding her in death was her husband Lyman on May 19 of this year, a son Frank, a daughter, Debbie Reidburn, a brother, Donald Easthouse, sisters, Marlene Wicks and Louellen Snooks Teeters and brothers-in-law, Harold Wookey, Bob Johnson and George Watts. Survivors include a son, John of Clark, 6 grandchildren, Joie Steffen, Jeff & Jarvis Reidburn, Johnny, Andy and Harrison Wookey and their Mother, Dianne Wookey Burns, 8 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brooke, Hudson, Justus, Lydia, Hayse, Emma and Lincoln and a son-in-law, Lon (Teresa) Reidburn of Clark. She also leaves siblings, Merna Wookey of Lily, Sharon (Marty) Dempster of Hinsdale, Il, Lucy Johnson of Clark, Anita Watts of Tucson, AZ, Howard Diane Easthouse of Henry and Mick Sandy Easthouse of Wilcox, AZ.
