Minerva Fick, age 93 of Sioux Falls, formerly of Willow Lake passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday afternoon, December 29, 2018 at a Sioux Falls care center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church of Willow Lake. Reverend Bryan Taffe will officiate and Dorothy Fuller will be the organist. Special music will be provided by Marie Rusche. Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Active casket bearers will be Kirk Henderson, Curtis Fick, Ryan Carson, Vernon Brenden, Lynn Forde, and Lloyd Brekke. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the services. Burial will be held later in the spring at Collins Cemetery of Willow Lake.
Minerva Ailene Forde was born June 9, 1925 at home to parents Peder "Pete" and Synneva "Susie" (Holven) Forde. She was baptized at Pleasant Lutheran Church in Clark County. She attended school in Willow Lake and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1943. She started teaching Sunday School following high school graduation. She received her teaching certificate from Northern Teachers College. Minerva taught country school for six years.
On February 16, 1949, she married Burdette Laverne Fick. They raised three children, Delores, Dennis and LaVonne.
Minerva was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Willow Lake. For many years, she served as the Sunday School Superintendent, the Church Treasurer, the Church Financial Secretary, was a member of the Grace Lutheran Women's Quilting Group and served on Altar Guild for many years. She crocheted doilies for her children & grandchildren and made quilts for them.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, an infant son Delwin Dean (twin to Dennis), four brothers, two sisters, an infant grandchild and a son-in-law.
She is survived by her children, Delores Henderson of Sioux Falls, Dennis (Pam) Fick of Willow Lake, and LaVonne Carson of Wakefield, NE. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kirk (Sara) Henderson, Kristi (Kenny) LaFramboise, Curtis (Holly) Fick, Melissa (Darren) Davis, Andrea (Mike) Johnson, Jennifer (Cody) Bruckner and Ryan (Megan) Carson; 13 great grandchildren and sister Annie Brenden of Arizona, formerly of Watertown.
