The staff of Golden Living Center at Clark should consider themselves as honorary casketbearers. He was born Melvin B. Nesheim on February 13, 1920 at Willow Lake, the son of Ole J. and Anna (Medaas) Nesheim. He attended country school. Melvin assisted on the family farm in Elrod Township. On November 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Mavis Ness at the parsonage in Vienna. The couple drove to her parent's farm in a 1939 Ford for the reception. The couple lived and farmed in the SW corner of Elrod Township until moving into Clark in 2000. Mavis passed away on July 7 of this year after spending 66 years together. Mavis and God must have wanted Melvin in heaven so they could celebrate 67 years together on the 24th. Besides his love of the land and family, he thoroughly enjoyed bowling. He had bowled on a league team at Clark and had competed in several tournaments across the area over the years. Melvin will also be long remembered by many for his love of card playing, especially pinochle. Just a few weeks ago he was still able to pair up with his son and win! He will also be remembered for his enjoyment of tinkering, fixing and repairing things on the farm and while in town. In younger years he enjoyed playing baseball. Over the years in addition to farming he worked at the Chickasha Mobile Homes in Watertown and also at Midwest (McCain) Foods in Clark. In earlier years he had worked for the WPA. He was a member of the Pleasant Lutheran Church until its closing and then the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Vienna. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Mavis and a sister, Ella (Olaf) Stevenson. Grateful for having shared in his life are his children, Gordon Nesheim of Huron, Sandra (Tom) Jones of Rapid City, Odean (Candy) Nesheim of DeBary, FL and Dave (Valorie) Nesheim of Watertown, grandchildren, Daniel (Holley), Tony, Lenny (Danielle), Robert (Lynn) and Brandi and 4 great-grandchildren, Bradley, Nolan, Payton and Breanne. www.furnessfuneralhome.com where there is an on-line registry.
