Mr. Melvin M. Conley, age 79 of Watertown died early Monday morning, October 11, 2004 in a Clark care center. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 3PM in the Sisseton Cemetery with Father Walter Butor officiating. Casketbearers will be Christopher Boettcher, Hieth Conley, Scott Conley, Tyler Conley and Lee Conley. Burial with military honors will follow. Visitation will be held also on Wednesday from 10AM-Noon at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark. He was born at Sisseton, SD, January 8, 1925, the son of Edwin and Ruby (Schoenher) Conley. He grew to adulthood in the Sisseton area attending school there. He entered the U.S. Army on August 23, 1943 and served until March 10 of 1946. While in the service he was stationed in the Philippines and also went to tractor mechanics school at Ft. Crook, NB. Melvin was united in marriage in June 1949 to Maryann Egan at Rosholt, SD. To this union 10 children were born. He has lived in Watertown for many years working for the City of Watertown and being self-employed for many years. There werent many things that he could not fix and and/or build, whether it be a machine of some sort, designing and building a boom truck or working on a car crusher. He enjoyed automobiles of all sorts, especially racecars. Survivors include his children, Sharon Conley of Watertown, Gordon Conley and wife Lola of East Grand Forks, MN, Betty Obermeier and husband Kipp of Clark, Roxane Nelson and husband Willis of Gettysburg, Fabian Conley of Arlington, Kevin Conley, Patrick Conley, Kathy Boettcher and husband Marty and Paul Conley and fianc Misty Hensen all of Watertown. He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a sister Ethel Lackey of Spearfish. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Rick on December 26, 1993, a granddaughter Crystal Conley on May 16, 2003 and many siblings in infancy.
