Private burial will be held at a later date in the Prairie Hill Cemetery at Bradley. He was born Maynard Daniel Morehouse on October 1, 1934 at Crandall, SD, the son of Clifford R. and Valma I. (Stern) Morehouse. He attended country school at Sunnyside #221 - Oak Gulch and then at Sunnyside #192 in Troy Township, both near Crandall. Following his schooling he then worked for area neighbor farmers until entering the US Army in February 20, 1955 at the age of 20. During a leave, he was united in marriage to Idella M. Post at the Crocker Lutheran Church in Crocker. The couple lived at Ft. Sill, OK until he was discharged in February of 1957. After his discharge, the couple lived in Bristol for six years and then into Bradley. While in Bristol, Maynard worked at the Holmquist Elevator. After moving to Bradley in 1961 he became the manager of the Bradley Elevator and worked there until retiring in 1987. After his retirement from the elevator, he became a rural mail carrier and hauled mail until 2011. Maynard was one not to sit around much, so he started to run a coffee shop in the former Dacotah Bank building, a place for locals to gather in Bradley, to visit and solve the world problems. He has done this until entering the hospital a week ago. He really enjoyed life, especially when he had family and friends around to visit with. Maynard coached little league baseball for many years, played slow pitch and fast pitch softball, umpired many games, and bowled on leagues in Clark and Watertown. He loved playing cards, gardening, and watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. The Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings always had his support too and he loved watching bull riding. Maynard enjoyed countless hours at the lake or a local waterhole fishing or out hunting. This past weekend, on the day of his death, the ball field at Bradley was named the Maynard Morehouse Field during the Back to Bradley celebration. With technology, Maynard did get to see the sign that was made in his honor to be placed at the ball field, now in his memory . Maynard was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Bradley, the Larry Hartman American Legion Post #108 of Bradley, and had served on the Bradley School Board and the Bradley Town Board. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife of over 55 years, Idella on November 19, 2011. Grateful for having shared in his life are his children, Daniel "Shine" (Marie) Morehouse of Las Vegas, NV, Glenn (Sharon) Morehouse of Bradley, Gail (Terry) Evenson of Willow Lake, Nina Smith and fiancé David Hoops of Ferney and Pam Siefken of Redfield; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren and a brother, Arvin (Coleen) Morehouse of Eden Prairie, MN.
