Maxine Fischer, age 98, Clark, died peacefully on June 25, 2014 in the Golden Living Center at Clark. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 2PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Pastor Donna Nickels officiating. Dorothy Fuller will serve as pianist. A private burial will be held in the Prairie Valley Cemetery at Raymond. There will be no visitation. She was born Ruth Maxine Fischer on June 4, 1916 at Raymond, SD, the daughter of Otto Charles and Jacqulin (Johnson) Fischer. She attended and graduated from Ash Consolidated School north of Raymond and then attended Northern Normal in Aberdeen obtaining her teaching certificate. Maxine as she was known began teaching for a short period of time and then in the early 1940's moved to California. During the middle 1940's she worked for movie actor Jess Barker and his wife actress Susan Hayward as a maid, even cooking occasionally, during the time when the couple had twin boys born. Maxine then went to work for Peninsula Creamery as a bookkeeper for over 40 years. After retiring she moved to Lake Wildwood north of Sacramento, CA and then to Clark in 1992. She lived in the Roetell Apartments, the Roetell Assisted Living Center and in May of 2013 became a resident of the Golden Living Center. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church at Raymond. In her free time she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings, Lenore Huber and Alton, Dale and Merrill Fischer and a brother-in-law, Dale Stevens. Grateful for having shared in her life are her sisters, Bruce Liddicoat of Palo Alto, CA, Jean (John) Wear of Lincoln, CA and Wilma Stevens of Clark and a brother, John (Betty) Fischer of Lake Tahoe, CA and several nieces and nephews.
