Obituary

Mavis Nadene Bymers, age 93, passed away on Friday June 19, 2026 at Bethany Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Born on March 11, 1933, in Clark, South Dakota, to Maxwell and Jeanette Hilsabeck, Mavis lived a life of hard work, quiet strength, and deep devotion to the people and places she loved. She attended college in Brookings before returning to Clark, where she briefly taught country school. Over the years, Mavis worked at First National Bank and Knutson Drug Store before joining the Clark County Register of Deeds Office, where she developed a passion for title work. Later, alongside her very good friend, Cheryl Swanson, she acquired Clark Abstract and Title Company. Together, they faithfully served the community for many years. Through her dedication, integrity, and genuine care for others, Mavis built lasting relationships and found great joy in serving the people of Clark until her retirement around 2013.

Though her professional accomplishments were many, those who knew Mavis best will remember the simple joys that brought her happiness. Wednesday night bowling with lifelong friends became a cherished tradition, and even after her health declined, she often said that bowling was what she missed most. Her friendships, built over decades, were a testament to the loyalty and love she shared with others. Mavis also loved planting flowers. Every spring and summer, you could find her outside planting and tending to her flower beds, which were truly her pride and joy. She found great joy in caring for them and took pride in creating beauty that others could enjoy as well.

Mavis was the kind of person who truly devoted her life to helping others. She was generous, caring, and always put others before herself. She lived a life of loving Jesus and loving others. Even after the age of 80, she continued working, not because she had to, but because she wanted to. Helping people brought her joy. Mavis leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and service, and her family and friends will always be grateful for the difference she made in their lives.

Grateful to have shared Mavis's life are her children, Lon, Jody, and Joel; her grandchildren, Jared (Sarah) Bymers, Jacob (Samantha) Bymers and Vandi (Rhain) Bymers; her great grandchildren, Natalie, Isabella, and Lucas Bymers, children of Jared and Sarah, and Nathan, Henry, and Oliver Bymers, children of Jacob and Samantha; and her sister in law, Sandra Hilsabeck.

She is preceded in death by her parents Max Hilsabeck, Jeanette Stewart, and her step father Chester Stewart, her brothers Clayton Hilsabeck and his wife Donna, Harlan Hilsabeck, her daughter in law Kyra Bymers (Lon), and an infant brother James.
