She was born Marylin Elaine Johnson October 24, 1928 on the farm west of Roslyn, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (McCarlson) Johnson.  Marylin attended country schools near Roslyn and then Roslyn High School graduating in 1947.

Following high school, Marylin ventured to Minneapolis working in the nursing department at the Hennepin County Medical Center.  She returned to Webster and worked as a switchboard operator.

On October 20, 1956 she was united in marriage to Alfred J. Hemmingson at the Tabor Lutheran Church near Roslyn, her home church.  The couple lived and farmed their entire married life on the farm, northwest of Bradley.  While on the farm Marylin was an active part of the farming operation, working in the field, driving trucks, tractors, and other farm duties.  She also grew a large flower and vegetable garden.  Growing vegetables led to many canned goods of all varieties.  She also had Marylin's Greenhouse at the farm which she operated for several years.  Marylin was not one to sit idle, besides her love of the outdoors, she  enjoyed some inside hobbies including, oil painting on canvas – mainly landscapes, but also flowers,  and being a part of the quilting/sewing group at church.  In the church, St. Johns at Bradley, she had served for many terms as President of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the church circles.  She also sang in the Bradley-Crocker Church Choir.

In the community, Marylin had served as a 4-H Leader of the Friends and Neighbors 4-H Club of Day County, drove bus from Bradley to the Multi-District Education Center in Watertown, and also worked at the Webster Hospital in the nursing department.  Although free moments weren't many, she really enjoyed visiting, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Alfred, Marylin, and the family enjoyed countless summer vacations to the Black Hills, Yellowstone National Park, and Wisconsin to name some.  She and Alfred also loved their trips to Las Vegas and a cruise to the Caribbean's, a retirement gift he received.  Alfred died on February 12, 2009.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a son, Scott, a great-granddaughter, Kiona York, and siblings, Sylvia (Earl) Luchterhand, James (Verna) Johnson, and twin brothers at birth, and brothers-in-law, Earl Davidson and Edward Pies.
