Mary Alice Topper, age 83, Clark, died in the Golden Living Center at Lake Norden on Monday, May 7, 2012. Visitation will begin at Noon on Thursday, May 10, 2012 and will continue until service time at 2:00 PM all in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark. Pastor Donna Nickels will officiate at the funeral service with Dorothy Fuller providing the music. Casketbearers will be Doug and Dale Swanson, Glenn Dix and Les Solberg. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. She was born Mary Alice Lindstrom on July 9, 1928 in Clark County, SD, the daughter of Rupert Norman and Berniece (Swanson) Lindstrom. She grew to adulthood in Clark attending school and graduating from Clark High School in 1946. Following high school she attended and graduated from Northern Normal with a teaching certificate and taught rural school in Clark County for two years and then near Lake Norden for a year. After her teaching in country schools, she moved to Minneapolis and worked for many years as a waitress. She married George Topper in Minneapolis. After his death in the early 1960's, she returned to live with her Mother Berniece and husband Harry Brown. After their deaths she moved into the Garden Grove Apts. and then in 2009 to the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden. Some of her fondest moments were spent watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings on the television. She also enjoyed stitching pillow cases, working word search games and crossword puzzles. Preceding her in death were her parents, stepfather Harry Brown, and a close cousin, Donald Swanson, Jr. Surviving are several cousins including the family of Donald, Sr. and Frances Swanson www.furnessfuneralhome.com for further information.
