Mary "Winnie" Ackerman

Mary "Winnie" Ackerman, age 106, a lifelong resident of Clark, died peacefully at a Watertown hospital on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

A memorial service will be held June 5, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Clark UCC Congregational Church with Pastor Fawn Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mary Winifred Ackerman was born May 18, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant Township, Clark County to Izetta M. (Hastings) and Henry L. Lorshbough. "Winnie", as she became known, joked that she got a good start as she was a twelve pound baby.  She was born, raised and a lifelong resident of Clark County graduating from Clark High School in 1932.

Winnie married Ralph Ackerman on December 11, 1935, in Webster. They farmed in Mt. Pleasant Township until 1977 when the couple retired and moved to Clark. Three children were born to this union. Winnie spent many years as a homemaker and also worked at the Clark Care Center as a cook for ten years retiring in 1974. Ralph died in 1985.

She was a past president of the Clark Senior Citizens, a member of the United Church of Christ, past president of the Women's Fellowship group and a Sunday School teacher. Winnie became a resident of Roetell's Assisted Living Center in 2007. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing cards.

Survivors are her children, David (Maureen) Ackerman of Vienna, VA, and Catherine (Richard) Bell of Wyndmere, ND; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Ralph, a son Glen, and siblings.
